Southern Water said around 3,500 properties have no water or low pressure, but an additional 5,000 homes in the area could be affected.

One lane of Sedlescombe Road is closed, and traffic lights have been put in place while repairs are being carried out to the burst main in the road.

Bottled water will be available by 12pm, a spokesperson for Southern Water said. Details will follow.

The spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this is causing.

“We know having no water can be troublesome, particularly at weekends when people may be enjoying time at home, but we can assure customers that restoring supplies safely and as soon as possible is our absolute priority.”

The spokesperson added that the company is ‘unable to say when supplies will be restored’. Multiple crews are on the site carrying out repairs.
