Video: Mayor joins surfers in beach clean

The mayor of Brighton and Hove teamed up with Surfers Against Sewage to tidy up the coastline last week.

Cllr Pete West helped with the Big Beach Spring Clean at Hove Lawns, walking in the heat collecting rubbish with a picker.

Taking part for the eighth time since January, he cleared up rubbish and spoke of the impact littering has on the environment.

He said: “We need to keep the beach clean so that when people come they have a nice time and are not swimming in loads of rubbish.”

Around 70 volunteers joined Saturday’s beach clean, including families.

Surfers Against Sewage is an environmental charity working across the UK to protect beaches allowing people to enjoy them safely.
