Bev Marks, of Rother Ramblers, commented: “Many attendees enjoyed the opportunity to talk to Susie Corfield from Ramblers Central Office.

“The morning started with snow showers causing some from far afield, who intended to come, to turn back as road conditions deteriorated.

“Nevertheless the snow abated by 10:30am when 12 intrepid walkers went on a short five mile walk around the surrounding High Weald countryside. The walk was led by Janet Eason who stepped in at very short notice.

“Notably for two hours out walking the weather was really kind and kept dry overhead, but in places the previous precipitations led to significantly slippery mud when crossing some winter wheat fields.

“Nevertheless all enjoyed our time and we even saw a heron – well away from water except some ditches; for the botanists we saw several primroses in flower.

Rother Ramblers are walking at Bedgebury on Saturday February 14.
