Village's jubilee tree

As villagers planted an oak tree last week to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee some of them reflected back to the silver jubilee in 1977 when they planted a disease free Dutch elm.

That tree is flourishing, according to Fletching parish councillor and vice-chairman of the jubilee committee Barry Dickens, and the new tree has been given the best possible start, chosen and planted by National Trust employees at the Sheffield Park Estate.

Railings guard the oak which is on the recreation ground next to the pavilion and a commemorative stone records the golden jubilee details.
