War-time Britain revival at Amberley

WAR-TIME Britain will be re-enacted at Amberley Working Museum on Sunday, May 27, and Bank Holiday Monday.

The museum's Home Front Celebration, now in its third year, will give visitors the chance to see a range of exhibits and activities across the Museum's 36-acre site.

As well as re-enactment and specialist groups on hand to give a flavour of life during the War, there will be numerous period vehicles on display, many of which were used in the war years.

Some of the museum's Southdown buses were used in the evacuations and one of its railway wagons was used to carry art treasures from museums in London into the safe haven of slate quarries in Wales.

"We should never forget or under-estimate life in war-time Britain," said Sandy Wilson, the museum's marketing manager.

"With the exhibits on site, the special activities being run and the memories being provided by those who went through it, the Home Front Celebration will provide a remarkable way of ensuring this isn't the case."

The event includes standard entry to the museum, allowing visitors to see the other exhibits on site, including craftspeople, a working vintage bus service and narrow-gauge railway.
