'˜Warm' response to vintage market

The first Vintage and Veg Yapton Village Market on Friday was organised by the trust and saw a variety of different stalls.

“We hope the Vintage and Veg Market will bring together the local community to buy and share home-grown produce and crafts and provide a meeting place to stop for a drink, cake and catch up,” said Gill Hunter, one of the organisers.

“The response from local people for our first market was enthusiastic and warming and we look forward to the next one.”

Customers do not have long to wait until the next market, with the plan being to hold it every first Friday of the month in the Yapton Village Hall, from 10am to midday.

A spokeswoman for the trust said the new venture was ‘well received’ by stallholders and residents alike. The Aldingbourne Trust was selling items of handmade pottery, woodwork, organic produce and plants at the market – all of which were made or grown by adults with learning disabilities who are supported by the trust.

A number of other stalls were on site, including sweet-smelling bouquets from Amber Rose Flowers, homemade chutneys, jams, quiches and cakes from Jennie Muir and hats from Transmeck Fashion.

Walberton-based charity Sussex Orchards was also present, with a stall selling homemade apple juice and wood products.

The Aldingbourne Trust said new stallholders were welcome to come along to set up for the next market in September.
