WEALDEN'S NEW CHAIRMAN

Councillor Mrs Pat Kennedy has been elected chairman of Wealden District Council following the death of Councillor John Vincent.

Councillor Mrs Kennedy, ward member for Buxted and Maresfield, was elected Vice-Chairman last May and since the death of Councillor Vincent in July has been carrying out the late chairman's duties.

She paid tribute to the late chairman at the September meeting of Wealden District Council and spoke about plans for a suitable memorial to him.

"I hope that during my time as chairman, the Council will continue to provide the best service possible to the people of Wealden," she said.

Cllr Mrs Kennedy leaves for Peru on October 13 to take part in a gruelling trek to ancient city of Machu Picchu in order to raise money for this year's Chairman's Nominated Charity, the Sussex Air Ambulance Appeal. So far she has raised over 6000 for the Sussex Air Ambulance Appeal.

Wealden District Council's new Vice-Chairman is Councillor Ian Mein, ward member for Crowborough East. Councillor Mein was Vice-Chairman from 1997-1999.
