Residents in Sussex have been told to expect thunderstorms as the weather takes a turn for the worse this week.

According to the Met Office – after a dry bright start to the day – cloud will thickening as an area of rain and showers ‘moves east across the region’. A spokesperson said to expect: “Some locally heavy rain for a time in the afternoon and evening with thunderstorms possible.”

The rain and heavy showers – ‘some thundery’ – will ‘gradually clear away’ south towards midnight, with long clear spells developing for most, and a patchy frost possible inland, the Met Office forecast.

Looking ahead to tomorrow (Tuesday), the Met Office said we can expect a bright, chilly start before cloud ‘bubbles up into the afternoon’. There will still be ‘occasional bright spells’ and remain dry.

The outlook for Wednesday to Friday is further cloudy weather, with outbreaks of rain ‘pushing erratically east’. Breezy weather is also expected.
