Westfield Church: celebrates Plough Week-End! There is a concert with '˜Taylor Maid' at 4pm in church tomorrow, Saturday January 30, which promises brilliant jazz, folk and swing music. The Mummers will also be making a visit. Tickets (£6, children free) are available at Archers Butchers, by ringing 01424 751029, or on the door, and include tea and cake. Plough Sunday will be celebrated with Morris dancers and other special guests on Sunday, January 31 at 10am, when you are invited to mark the beginning of the agricultural year by helping to decorate the plough brought into the church.

The HUB is closed: this morning as ‘The Plough’ is closed for stocktaking for a few days following the arrival of the new manager. Dave will be welcoming customers old and new shortly, and the HUB will be open there as normal from next Friday, 5 February.

There is an open meeting tonight: for all residents to plan for this year’s Westfield Village Fete, and to set up a Fete Team. Please come to the Community Hall at 7.30pm, even if it’s just to make a few suggestions. For more details contact the Chairman of Westfield Community Association, John Barnett, at [email protected].

Westfield Horticultural Society: is running a Valentine Quiz Evening on Saturday, February 13 in the Parish Hall, at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. This is for teams of up to eight people, and should be an evening of fun. Tickets are £5 each including hot supper and gateaux, and need to be booked in advance by ringing Catherine on 01424 552485. Residents were sad: to hear the news: that Barbara Nunn died recently. She was a stalwart worker for the Friends of Westfield Church and the Bingo Club, as well as being a key volunteer at the Lunch Club. The Westfield Parish Lunch Club is now in desperate need of an experienced cook who can volunteer one Friday each month. The Lunch Club will have to close if they cannot get a cook, which will be a shame as it has served the village for many years. Please get in touch with the Co-ordinator Doreen (01424 751417) if you know anyone who might be able to help.

The Westfield Village website: www.westfieldvillage.co.uk has all sorts of information about village organisations, events, Westfield Community Association and the Parish Council. This is your website, set up to serve the village community, and your contributions, news and views are needed.
