The Good Companions: Hilda Aplin writes: Members of The Good Companions enjoyed a delicious home cooked lunch at The Royal Oak last week. Thank you to Maria who was the chef on that day and to Neil who looked after us so well. In August the group visited The Orangery at Ashburnham, where again we enjoyed a very good home cooked lunch. After lunch we were able to stroll around the beautiful grounds of the Ashburnham Estate. Our next meeting in November is a Christmas lunch at The White Hart in Netherfield on Wednesday, 26th November. If you would like to join the group on some or all of their outings/meetings please do telephone Hilda on 01634 932135 or Valerie on 01424 773017. The Good Companions is a group of people who meet up socially once a month and it is very informal. As you may know I have moved away from Whatlington now and quite a few people have asked why I still continue to organise outings for The Good Companions. The answer is very simple. Hamish and I enjoyed the 15 years we lived in Battle and made many good friends both in Battle & Whatlington. I worshipped at St Mary Magdalene Church Whatlington and because of this was very much involved in village life there. I am therefore returning to a place that Hamish & I loved and I look forward to my monthly visits even if it does mean spending hours on the bus!

The Royal Oak: Maria writes to say that the 1066 Battle of Hastings Mediaeval Banquet was a huge success, with great comments from the locals who attended. Several people have asked us to do more such events, so we are now looking into other important historical dates that might offer similar opportunities. If you have any ideas, please let us know! The Musical Evening with Santino Fabbricatore was fantastic; everyone here was most impressed! Santino is coming back on December 19th to do a Festive performance, with Christmas and Rat pack songs, so make a note in your diaries!
