Willingdon, Wannock and Jevington

THE JPK SUSSEX PROJECT: Was formed to provide a supported living centre for people with a learning disability alongside meaningful daytime activities. Building work will shortly be commencing to get the project underway at their site in Old Town, previously owned by Edgmond Evangelical Church. As well as various grant making trusts supporting the project and more charitable trusts pledging their support, local organizations, groups and individuals have been very generous. In the last few months more fundraising events have taken place. They include a sponsored Flaming Challenge Walk organised by Karen Hurst, and the Golden Arrow Pulman experience organised by Chris and Peter Waring. Eastbourne Lions Club organised a sponsored swim, and an illustrated presentation of the Great War in pictures was given by Alan Hodges. The East Dean Players raffle, pudding night hosted by Maureen and John Males, and the parish council's Christmas carol evening, where JPK had a stall were also worthwhile fundraising events. Concentus Chorale members are long-standing supporters of the project and raise much needed finance from their concerts. Then there was the bag packing day at ESK Warehouse organised by Karen Hurst; the proceeds from a concert given by the Voice Works Company of Singers, and the Arndale Centre's Win-a-Car draw. Eastbourne Mayor Cllr Janet Coles' chosen charity along with RNLI for her year in office was the JPK Sussex Project and so JPK has benefitted from events that have been instigated by the mayor such as the recently held quiz night and fish and chip supper, as well as those organised by others for her chosen charities. These include a coffee morning organised by the Eastbourne branch of the Halifax Building Society, and the Xmas fayre held at the Devonshire Park tennis centre. Willingdon resident and JPK Project co-ordinator Jill Parker MBE would like to thank all those who continue to support the project in any way who she says '˜all make a difference'.
