The incident, which police have just told the Observer happened on June 26 around 4.15pm, saw several conifer trees set alight and destroyed.

In a statement police said: “In particular, officers are keen to talk to youths seen running away from the incident, one of whom stood out because he was wearing a red top.”

One of them was wearing a red top and police want to identify group members to see if they know anything about the torched trees or else can be eliminated from enquiries.

The youths or anyone who recognises them, or people who may have other information about the incident, are asked to email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting serial 1159 of 26/06. Alternatively they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-uk.org).
