Woman is sexually assaulted in Littlehampton

A WOMAN in Littlehampton was sexually assaulted as she walked home during the early hours of Sunday, February 3, police have said.

The 46-year-old victim was attacked at around 1.30am in Bell Davies Road as she worked her way home having left a friend’s house, minutes before.

A man approached her from behind and asked if she had a light. He then grabbed at her breasts and groin area before she managed to shout out for help, causing him to run off.

PC Claire Richardson from West Sussex response investigation team said: “This was a very distressing incident for the victim and I would urge anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity or who knows who is responsible for this assault to please get in touch.

“You can call 101 quoting serial 0168 of 3/2 or alternatively leave an anonymous message with the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who has been the victim of a similar sexual assault and has not yet reported it to police – your call will be dealt with in strict confidence and you will be offered help and support.”

There is no description of the suspect other than he spoke with a non-English accent.

An area search was conducted straight after the report to police but the suspect was not found.

Local house-to-house enquiries and a scene examination were also carried out.
