Work experience pays off in Rustington

GOVERNMENT plans to get youngsters into employment really work, say staff at a Rustington garden centre.

Proposals to create 250,000 work experience places nationally over the next three years were announced last week.

Haskins Roundstone, though, which is currently being extended, is already working with JobCentre Plus, and staff gave the work experience scheme’s latest recruits, Hayleigh Newman from Rustington, who was unemployed for six months, Penelope Caswell, who joined the scheme straight from college, and Anthony Cooney, who was unemployed for seven months both, and is also from Littlehampton, a tour.

Kirsty Goble, general manager, said: “I’d really encourage other employers in Sussex to offer a work experience placement to help young people get the experience they need to get their foot on the career ladder.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to try new areas of work and allows them to really show employers what they can do. I’ve been really impressed with their enthusiasm and willingness to learn.”
