Young musicansare inspirational

The award-winning song writer is a patron of Battle Arts and Music Festival and has been selecting eight talented young acts from 1066 Country for hour long mentoring sessions.

Speaking this week Tim said: “I want to thank every single person who sent in music for this event. The songs were all of an amazingly high standard. Every one had something unique and interesting about it, and it really was incredibly difficult to narrow the list down to a shortlist of only eight.

“It’s very evident that there are great young songwriters working away in every corner of 1066 Country, and I’m genuinely excited to see how all these artists develop over the coming months and years.”

The eight acts that caught his attention were Elise Brontosaurus, hip Joint, Will pollard, Rachel Wilson, Caitlin Merison. Wax, Nina Smith and Francesca Lewis.

The chosen applicants will receive advice on song-writing, recording, live music, and any aspect of the music industry they feel needs most attention.

In a message to all applicants Tim said: “You are going to enrich the culture of this historic corner of the world, light up people’s lives and inspire other people to make music too.”

Battle Arts and Music Festival moves into its second week and has drawn visitors from throughout the UK as well as Europe and the United States with a varied and top quality line-up of events.

This is the main weekend of the festival with the major concerts starting at St Mary’s Church on Friday October 24 when A Sussex Legacy, focuses on the rich musical heritage of Sussex, the beauty of its landscape the experiences of English composers during The Great War.

Further concerts by the Battle Festival Sinfonia take place at Battle Abbey on Saturday night and at St Mary’s Church on Sunday evening and tickets and full information about these and other events can be found on the festival website. Battle residents can also purchase tickets at Farrago on the High Street and, if availability allows, on the door at each event.

Saturday afternoon sees a unique event for children and families Welcome to Uke Town. CBeebies presenter Katy Ashworth teams up with acoustic trio Sara Spade and The Noisy Boys to take kids and their parents on an imaginary musical journey through a little town where all the madcap characters can only communicate with song and dance. The interactive family event involves acrobatics, pet dinosaurs, playing crazy pirates, boogieing, rhyming and body percussion.

On Sunday afternoon Utter Jazz present their highly acclaimed programme which takes a vibrant new look at the music of Benjamin Britten – weaving swing, samba, blues and grooves through the stunning melodies and harmonies of his songs from the 1930s.
