"Tense, nervous, headache, take Anadin." That's how the 1980s advert went for the answer to a throbbing temple. You could have deleted Anadin and inserted Albion on Tuesday night as the Seagulls battled past a classy Swindon side in the League Cup.

Aside from the wonder goal, result, extra-time, two penalties, and red card, it was a chance to get a first glimpse of three new recruits, Adrian Colunga, Gary Gardner and Paddy McCourt. Colunga certainly impressed with pace and an eye for goal but all the trio's arrival appears to have further eased the transfer headaches some fans were suffering in the early part of August.

Since those early defeats, the Albion have recruited a host of players in all different ways.

One journalist noted recently that it wasn't whether Manchester United could afford to buy Di Maria for £60 million, but whether they could afford not to. Get them in when they want/are out, Danny Holla and Paddy McCourt. Go to the big boys, loanees Bennett, Teixeira and Gardner.
