ATHLETICS: Dean and Richard top Harriers' points chart

DEAN STORRY and Richard Buckingham headed the points chart for Worthing Harriers' track and field team who were tie-broken out of promotion of the Southern League Division 1 at Guildford last month.

In their six matches, Storry missed only the penultimate match, at Watford, and covered 20 events and scored 78 points for the team.

Fellow-all-rounder Buckingham, who took up the slack at Watford but missed the final match, that decided promotion, covered 21 and scored 74.

The next leading Harriers points-scorers were high jumper and hurdler Dan Dunscombe with 50 points from 10 (he missed the Watford match while taking the English Schools bronze medal); veteran thrower David Vandyke, 41 from 12; young sprinter Andy Millen 37 from 10; Dave Morris 32 from 14; sprinter Lee Fulham 31 from nine; middle-distancer Adam Stainsby 31 from eight; veteran hurdler and jumper Alan Easey, 29 from seven; and 400m-to-1,500m man Mark Burchett 28 from seven.

In all, 34 athletes appeared for the team, which took 684 points from 192 individual events covered. Nine men helped out in just one event.
