BASKETBALL: Worthing Thunder win at Sheffield Sharks

Worthing Coach Gary Smith was delighted with the victory and said: "It's nice to come to places like Sheffield, where we are not expected to win, and surprise a few people. I was hoping we would carry on from our solid performance against the Rocks on Saturday night and we did just that."

It was, however, the hosts who found themselves in front at the end of the first quarter, 23-21.

Thunder were the stronger team in the second with Colby Bargeman's 19 points giving them a healthy 52-36 lead at the half.

After extending their lead slightly at the begining of the third, the vistors withstood Sharks' comeback, and held on to a four-point lead heading into the last quarter.

Thunder were 83-81 up heading into the final minute, when Jonathen Woods hit a deep three-pointer to establish a five-point cushion.

After a foul to stop the clock in the closing stages, Thunder sealed the win from a free throw.

Smith added: "It was great to see Bargeman's 27 points. He has been strugling a little with injury, so it's good to see him put that behind him.

"Although we were 16 points up at the half, we knew they would make a run, but we were strong enough to withstand it and take the win.

"When we stop digging holes for ourselves, we are competitive in this league and tonight we showed that."

On Saturday, Thunder had lost 85-77 at home to Scottish Rocks.
