Bexhill win opening day derby

BEXHILL won the opening day derby against neighbours Sidley in Division Two of the Sussex Cricket League.

The Bexhill Observer-sponsored match saw new skipper Sam Roberts mark his first competitive game in charge with a fine knock of 71.

Former Crowhurst Park player Martin Menezes also enjoyed a good day with the bat, reaching an impressive 52 on a rather green wicket as Bexhill declared on 192-9.

Sidley skipper Peter King did his best to rally his troops with 5-41 backed up by veteran Tyrone Wildman's 3-54.

But despite a 45 in reply for Jonathan Haffenden, Sidley were always struggling against the bowling of Roberts (4-63) and Rakesh Patel (3-33).

Bexhill romped home by 43 runs as their local rivals were dismissed for 149. Bexhill collected 28 points and Sidley 10.
