College crowned football champions

THE Bexhill College football team have been crowned South East Regional Cup champions.

The talented team are now awaiting confirmation to hear whether they will advance to a national final.

They secured the title with an unnecessarily hard-fought 3-2 success over an ill-tempered London Leisure College side.

Bexhill coach Jeremy Wassell said: "We have done exceptionally well. It's been a really good run. The boys have put in an awful lot of hard work."

Bexhill led throughout after Tom Bowles' early strike from a James Duffell cross was embellished by goals from Kym Monroe and Tom Frere-Smith.

A glut of missed chances meant they required a tremendous save from Peter Newstead in the dying embers to cling onto a thoroughly deserved success.
