Southwater beat Roffey to lift Mirfield Cup

Southwater Cricket Club caused a shock to lift the Mirfield Cup on Tuesday night following an entertaining final against Roffey at Horsham.

A lively crowd turned out at Cricketfield Road to cheer the two teams on and they were treated to a well contested encounter which went the way of the underdogs.

Invitation League side Southwater batted first and made 184-7, of which Paul Osbourne hit a fine unbeaten half century after captain Nick Baker had got the side off to a flying start with a knock of 31.

In reply a fine start had Roffey cruising until Southwater’s bowlers Osbourne, Johann Brouwer and Rob Shultz pulled it back, and aided by no fewer than four run-outs the Sussex League Premier side finished their innings short on 170-8 from their 20 overs.
