Di Paola says Hornets did the right things to beat '˜quality' YMCA side

The tenants overcame their landlords for the second time this season as they ran-out 4-0 winners at Gorings Mead.

A Joe Shelley header was all that separated the sides at half-time after an even start, but Terry Dodd’s goal early in the second period killed off the game.

Shelley are Dodd then both struck again to put a gloss on the scoreline in a rather subdued second half in front of a crowd of 488.

Di Paola felt it was a case job done as they climbed to the top of the Premier Division on goal difference with a game in hand over Eastbourne Town.

He said: “I thought the boys played really well. After we weathered the wind in the first half and dealt with that, I thought second half we were really good.

“I only think James (Shaw) had one real save to make, so it was a really good result, I am really pleased.

“I thought everyone played well. They are a really good side and the two lads from Dorking that came in (Dean) Gunner and (Jerome) Beckles, they are second in Ryman South and good players.

“YM have quality throughout their whole side and are a really, really good side. We just did our jobs.

“We concentrated on doing all the right things when we could and that’s all you can ask for.

“I thought Doddsy (Terry Dodd) was brilliant, I thought all through the spine of the team we were really good. Ash (Jones) and Charlie (Farmer) were brilliant at the back there dealing with their good forward players.

“Biff (Joe Shelley), Kev (Keehan) and Hunty (Adam Hunt) were really strong in there against quality players and Terry led the line well, fed of scraps and scored two goals.”

The Hornets boss did feel bad for Ryan Storrie, who harshly lost his starting berth after Saturday’s 1-0 win over Worthing United.

He added: “Saturday was hard as we had a lot missing and the boys that came in did a really good job. I felt sorry for Ryan Storrie as he was boarderline man of the match on Saturday and I changed it up today.

“I feel really bad for him as he should have played and deserved to play, but that’s football and I picked a team to win the game.”
