Entries invited for Chichester Triathlon

Entries are open for this year's Chichester triathlon and junior aquathon.

Younger athletes will have the chance to take part in the junior aquathon on Saturday, July 16, while the triathlon will take place on July 17.

The triathlon, sponsored by Natures Way Foods, has attracted competitors from all over the world since it was introduced in 2007.

The junior aquathon, also sponsored by Natures Way Foods, is for competitors between eight and 16. The first wave of competitors will set off at 1pm.

It will start with a swimming race at Westgate Leisure followed by a run around Chichester College’s campus. The distances set for juniors is dependant on their age and recommended by the British Triathlon Federation.

The main triathlon the next day consists of:

* A 600m pool swim at Westgate Leisure Chichester;

* A 42km (26-mile) bike ride through Lavant, up South Harting Hill, round through Compton, Funtington and back into Chichester Westgate Leisure;

* A 10km (six-mile) out-and-back flat run along Centurions Way.

The first wave of triathlon competitors will start at 7am.

Alongside the main triathlon, the Chichester Try-a-Tri event will be held. This is a sprint triathlon suitable for competitors who prefer a shorter distance triathlon involving a 400m pool swim, 30k bike ride and a 5k run.

All athletes who participate will receive a medal and a goodie bag at the end with prizes available in many categories.

The cost to enter the triathlon is £35 for British Triathlon Federation (BTF) members, £42 for non-BTF members and £60 for a team entry.

The Try-a-Tri is £25 for BTF members and £32 for non-members. The junior aquathon is £15 for BTF members and £17 for non-members. To enter, visit www.chichester.gov.uk and complete the on-line form.
