Evans found it tough going in the pool rounds of the combined intermediate and senior event but reached the knockout stage of the competition.

The Chichester veteran won her first elimination fight but was soundly beaten in her second as she claimed seventh place overall and third in the intermediate event.

Josh Briffett, who also competes for Chichester, was one of the youngest in the cadet event and produced some fine displays.

Some of Chichester’s younger talents were in action at the Leon Paul junior foil series in London.

A large array of international and national fencers were involved and Chichester’s members faced a tough test.

Harry Gray was the stand-out performer from the club as he achieved a gold medal in the under-13 foil event.

Gray dispatched every opponent and faced a tricky test as he faced British champion Jean-Baptise Baigneres in the final, but he stormed to glory.

Tara Sallaba was also a credit to the club – she finished sixth in the under-13 girls’ event, a great achievement as she was against some of the UK’s finest talent.

Ethan Mansfield was one of the youngest performers in the under-11 event and managed to achieve a mid-table finish.
