Fisher 0 Rocks 1

Bognor's hopes of surviving the drop were given a boost when they defeated fellow strugglers Fisher Athletic 1-0 courtesy of a Mike McEnery goal.

The Rocks appeared in confident mood following their FA Trophy victory at Ramsgate last week and both McEnery and Tom Clarke produced a number of good early runs down the flanks in the opening minutes.

A mistake by Gary Funnell after 15 minutes almost allowed Fisher to open the scoring, but Higgins blazed wide.

Danny Smith and McEnery both had good attempts on goal midway through the half, but Ashlee Jones saved well on both occasions.

Chris Tardif at the other end needed all his experience to save well from a point-blank shot from Higgins and moments later Fisher's John Rads' pile-driver from 25 yards again forced the Bognor keeper to make an excellent save.

Fisher were making much more of a game of it and looked dangerous.

However, just before the break Steffan Gaisie and Clarke both came extremely close to opening the score.

Two minutes into the second half, a great shot on the volley from Paul Hinshelwood looked bound for the net, but a stupendous save from Jones somehow kept the scores level.

Both sides were attacking at every opportunity and Coleman for Fisher forced Tardif to again save well before Gaisie tested the impressive Jones at the other end.

Bognor were continuing to pour forward and a good run by McEnery set up Duncan Jupp, whose strong cross was headed inches over the bar by Clarke.

The Bognor fans behind the goal erupted after 66 minutes. A magnificent Jupp free-kick from 30 yards beat the keeper - but it crashed against the bar. However, McEnery was following up and he managed to force the ball home.

Bognor looked capable of grabbing a second goal, and with Hinshelwood looking impressive in midfield, his pass to Clarke created a good chance for Gaisie, whose header crashed back off the bar.
