Several Brighton & Hove Albion players have taken to social media to thank Chris Hughton after he was sacked as manager of the Seagulls this morning.

Hughton has parted company with the club after four-and-a-half years at the Amex. He guided Albion into the Premier League as runners-up from the Championship in 2016/17 and has kept Brighton in the top-flight in the last two seasons.

A run of three wins from 23 games led to Albion chairman Tony Bloom making the decision to part company Hughton.

Goalkeeper Mathew Ryan said on Twitter: "Shocked to hear of the news of the gaffer this morning. Brought the club success it could only dream of and will always be someone I have the highest respect for through how he conducts himself as a manager and a man. Wish him all the best for his next chapter."

Defender Shane Duffy wrote on Twitter: "Gutted to hear about the gaffer this morning. I wanna thank him for everything he has done for me on and mostly off the pitch. Thank you for giving me the chance to sign for this amazing club @OfficialBHAFC.

"Will always be grateful thank you."

Midfielder Beram Kayal put on Twitter: "Thank you, gaffer, for all the success together these past four and a half years. Good luck for the future."

Posting on Twitter, Yves Bissouma wrote: "Thank You Coach, good luck for the future."

On Instagram winger Anthony Knockaert posted a pictured of himself with Hughton and wrote: "Thank you for everything Gaffer."
