The 20-year-old signed a four-year-deal at Albion following an £8million switch from Argentinos Juniors in the January transfer window.

The midfielder was loaned back to Argentinos Juniors for the remainder of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign. Mac Allister made 19 Primera Division appearances last term, scoring five times.

Boca’s domestic season kicks off in August, but they have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Copa Libertadores, and Mac Allister will be eligible to play in the round of 16 two-legged tie against Brazilian side Club Athletico Paranaense in late July and early August.

Mac Allister will link up with former Manchester City man Carlos Tevez and brother Kevin, who is on loan from Argentinos Juniors. The midfielder's father, Carlos, made 124 appearances for Boca Juniors from 1992–1996, scoring five times.

Seagulls technical director Dan Ashworth said: “Alexis is an exciting young talent and he will continue his development for the next year in his homeland, with one of Argentina’s biggest clubs, playing in the Argentine first division and South America’s prestigious Copa Libertadores.

“We will continue to monitor his development over the 12-month period and review his position next summer.”
