Brighton & Hove Albion's under-18 team produced a stunning performance to win 3-1 away to Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup this evening.

Albion progressed into the fifth round with the win at Leigh Sports Village, with United legends Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt among those in attendance.

United had knocked out holders Chelsea in the previous round but Albion under-18 coach Mark Beard said in the build-up that his side had to go into the match with no fear.

The hosts hit the bar after just three minutes, before Brighton struck the woodwork through Peter Gwargis moments later.

In an action-packed start, Albion went ahead on six minutes. Haydon Roberts was brought down in the penalty area and Gwargis scored from the spot.

Brighton doubled their lead after 14 minutes when Ryan Longman fired home from distance into the far top corner.

The Seagulls made it 3-0 ten minutes into the second half. Longman headed Gwargis's set-piece against the bar and Roberts was on hand to head home the rebound.

Di'Shon Bernard pulled a goal back for United in the final minute but it was Albion's youngsters who progressed into the last 16 and they will now travel to Everton on February 9.
