Maenpaa left the Seagulls in the summer after making 11 appearances in three years, keeping six clean sheets.

He played just once last season, in the League Cup, as he was behind Mathew Ryan and Tim Krul in the battle to be number one.

He signed for Bristol City after training with the club for a couple of weeks and speaking to BCTV, Maenpaa said: "It’s been a good few weeks and now I am looking forward to playing.

“That’s the ultimate goal, to get into the Premier League.

“For three years I played with Brighton & Hove Albion but the reason I left there was because I was looking for more game time and I hope to achieve that here with Bristol City.”
