Frustration at both ends for Pascal Gross after defeat to Liverpool

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Pascal Gross was frustrated with incidents at both ends of the pitch after the Seagulls' 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.

The Premier League leaders got the only goal of the game early in the second half when Gross brought down Mohamed Salah in the penalty area and the Egyptian striker then scored from the spot.

Shortly afterwards, an opportunity opened up for Gross at the other end when Martin Montoya cut the ball back but his shot was blocked by Fabinho when he looked to fire it between the Brazilian midfielder's legs.

On the penalty incident, Gross spoke immediately after the game and said: "My first feeling was he put his arm around me, I put my arm around him but I had the feeling I took my arm away at the right moment. I'll have to see it again.

"I don't want to say something wrong straight after the game. When you concede a penalty, frustration is the first thing.

"Today I think we were not always lucky with 50-50 decisions."

At the other end, Gross had a shot blocked by Fabinho and said: "It was a good chance. I tried to get the ball through his legs, they were open but at the last second he closed them.

"The penalty and the goal was not lucky but I still think we played well."

Gross took positives out of Brighton's performance and felt the Seagulls could have got a point after their four-game unbeaten run came to an end.

He said: "It was a really good performance from us, I think a draw would have been the fair result.

"They had more of the ball of course and they are a great a team but we defended very good.

"I'm really disappointed, firstly with the result and secondly because it was a great team performance and because it was me who conceded the penalty.

"We created some chances and we're getting better.

"We have another tough game (on Saturday at Manchester United). Today we can be disappointed, then the gaffer will speak to us and we'll look forward."
