The 17-year-old defender joined Gosport on a month's loan on Friday and made his debut 24 hours later in a 2-1 defeat to AFC Totton in the FA Trophy.

Weaire joined the Evo-Stik South League Premier Division South club to solve a defensive crisis at Gosport and McAllister told Gosport's website: "I thought Matthew was excellent, having met the lads for the first time for only an hour before the game.

"He slotted in like he had been here all season. He grew into the game and you can see why he is at Brighton because he is a very talented lad.

"He's going to have a great future in the game and we are lucky to have him. He's a class act when the ball is at his feet and his positioning is good."
