Bourne solves goalkeeper crisis

Westfield have resolved a goalkeeping crisis with the signing of Gavin Bourne.

The experienced Bourne, pictured, put pen to paper with Westfield this week just days after looking as though he was on his way to Rye United.

Westfield joint manager Tony Harris said: “It solves our goalkeeping crisis for the weekend and gives us a bit of competition. Gav’s a big presence and a big character. He’s proven at this level, he’s a good county league goalkeeper.”

Bourne, who joins from Sidley United and will go straight into the side on Saturday, will be no stranger to Parish Field regulars since he’s a former Westfield player of the season winner.

His arrival comes at just the right time because regular stopper Matt Cruttwell is in the Sussex under-18 squad for an FA County Youth Cup second round tie away to Herefordshire and Peter Newstead is working.

Bourne joins with Westfield, who are third-bottom but with games in hand on everybody else, in the grip of possibly the worst run during their dozen years in Sussex County Football League Division Two.
