BBC pundit Ian Wright heaps praise on Brighton striker after vintage display at West Ham

Glenn Murray was an absolute menace to the West Ham rearguard throughout the 90 minutes and capped his performance with the equalising goal during a crucial relegation battle.

Albion were 2-0 down after first half goals from Issa Diop and Robert Snodgrass. Albion pulled one back with an own goal from Ogbonna before Snodgrass pulled the Hammers clear once more with a deflected effort. Pascal Gross and then Murray - following a lengthy VAR check - ensured Graham Potter's left with a vital point.

But it was Murray, who was making his first start since September, that caught the eye of Ian Wright. The BBC pundit did however feel Murray was fortunate not to be penalised for a foul on the West Ham keeper for their first goal.

"For the fist goal Glenn Murray has got hold of Fabianski and this is at 2-0," Wright said speaking on Match of the Day. "He can't get to it to get any purchase on it. If he had not held his arm he could have punched it away with two hands.

"It was a typical No 9 performance and he caused Ogbonna and Diop all sorts of problems with his hold up play and keeping the ball in an area, where they did get on top, simply because of how Murray played the game, keeping the ball and keeping the two defenders on their toes.

"He showed good movement and always looked to lay it off to a teammate. What is good at the age of 36, he is always determined to get in there at that near post and is looking to get headers in there.

"And for the goal he causes problems for Diop and Ogbona and the defenders do not know where he is, they are looking then looking for him again. He has dropped off, the experience takes him to the right place and nicks a goal. I don't think he hand-balled it, no."

West Ham are yet to beat Brighton in the Premier League, both drawing and losing three times against the Seagulls

Brighton remain two points clear of the drop zone and face another crucial match this Saturday against fellow strugglers Watford at the Amex Stadium.
