BBC pundit makes this surprise Graham Potter declaration after Brighton's win at Norwich

A well-taken first half goal from Leandro Trossard sealed victory for Albion which currently leaves them nine points above the relegation places with five matches remaining.

It may not have been Brighton's best display of the season and they rode their luck at the end when Adam Idah's header struck the post.

But it was a well organised and composed performance that should see Brighton maintain their top flight status.

Tariq Lamptey impressed once again at right back, while Adam Webster returned from injury and provided a formidable barrier alongside skipper Lewis Dunk.

Dan Burn was once again solid at left back, while Yves Bissouma and Davy Propper sat fairly deep and provided added protection.

The wide players of Aaron Mooy and Trossard rarely neglected their defensive duties and provided a cutting edge going forward. They also supported the hardworking top two of Aaron Connolly and Neal Mauapy. Both strikers worked tirelessly for the team for little individual reward.

Albion's haul of seven points from four matches since the restart has been impressive and aside from West Ham's surprise win at Chelsea, Brighton's relegation rivals continue to drop points.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Ian Wright's provided this brief analysis, “I think Graham Potter has got to get a lot of credit. Their defensive shape is very good and they’ve got a cutting edge going forward."

Martin Keown quickly added: "Two up top, it makes them look much better."

Brighton's victory moved them on to 36 points, equalling their tally from the 2018/19 season under Chris Hughton but the Albion head coach was quick to warn his players that the job is far from complete - especially as Liverpool and Man City are their next two opponents.

Potter added: "Our players are sensible people, they know not to listen to external noise and outside predictions.

"With behind-closed-doors and everything else, anything can happen (in games). We need to enjoy this result because it's a massive three points, but stay humble."

Potter also backed Norwich counterpart Daniel Farke to bounce back after a difficult first season in the Premier League.

"You can see the quality and I have a lot of respect for them because I know how good they were in the Championship," he said.

"Daniel is a really good coach, a top coach and he'll stick with what he does and learn and improve like we all have to.

"I am sure he will come back stronger from this experience."
