The 22-year-old picked up a knee injury while away on international duty with England last week, and is expected to be sidelined for around four weeks.

Rice played every minute of the Three Lions’ World Cup qualification victories over Albania and Poland in midweek, but has returned to his club carrying the knock.

So far this season, the midfielder has not missed a single Premier League game for David Moyes' men, but will have to sit out a number of key matches, starting with an away trip to Wolves on Monday night.

West Ham are still in the hunt for a Champions League spot, and still have clashes against fellow high-flyers Leicester City and Chelsea to contend with in the latter stages of the campaign.
