A hamstring tear suffered in mid-December saw the 20-year-old's season stopped in its tracks following an impressive start to the campaign for the former Chelsea man.

Of course, Brighton & Hove Albion fans were quick to react to the news on social media – here’s what Seagulls supporters said on Twitter:

@ryanadsett: “First March, now Lamptey, and possibly Webster out till the end of the season. 3 of our starting defenders out... not to mention the fact they’re all vital going forward too. Gutted.”

@blokefromthebn1: “Suspect if we get relegated he's played his last game for us. But that's not going to happen so looking forward to seeing him next season.”

@grantmward14: “Saw that coming. Veltman is a great replacement though. Just lack his burst of pace coming forwards.”

@dylanwhxtbreadx: “Announce Relegation.”

@WalterE66667767: “He'll rip up the Championship.”

@OllieMover: “Hate to say it but I saw this coming months ago I guess this also confirms that he will be our player next season which is 1 positive.”

Indeed, Lamptey was linked with a move to Arsenal before the injury setback, and Gunners fans were also quick to react to the news:

@Umpteenthgooner: “More reason to forget him as genuine Bellerin replacement.”
