Brighton and Hove Albion star wanted by Arsenal as Mikel Arteta considers summer swap deal

Tariq Lamptey is back in Brighton and Hove Albion training and could be in contention for Saturday’s crunch Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion.

The 20-year-old last featured for the Seagulls in December after picking up a hamstring injury during the 0-0 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage.

But encouragingly for Albion fans and boss Graham Potter, Lamptey’s return is just around the corner.

Potter revealed: "Yes, he did (train at the weekend). He started the very first stages of joining the group so depends on how this week goes.

"He has got a chance to maybe be involved at the weekend, so we will see."

Lamptey broke onto the scene during the end of the 2019/20 season having joined from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

He carried that momentum into the beginning of this campaign and his lightning performances quickly attracted interest from a number of European clubs.

Lamptey stayed loyal to Brighton however by signing a new long-term deal last month.

Despite committing his long-term future to the Seagulls, Duncan Castles of the Transfer Window Podcast, believes Lamptey is an option for Arsenal.

Indeed, any potential move rests on Hector Bellerin leaving the Emirates Stadium. The Spaniard has reportedly told Mikel Arteta he’d like to leave in the summer.

Paris Saint-Germain are viewed as the most realistic option for Bellerin, and the Gunners could ask for Julian Draxler in return.
