Brighton transfer news: Albion eye in-form League One defender, Mat Ryan 'expected' to join Arsenal permanently

Tariq Lamptey is ruled out for the remainder of the season after surgery on his hamstring over the weekend, The Athletic report.

The 20-year-old has not featured for Albion since December due to a hamstring problem. His absence is certainly being felt as the club fight to beat the drop.

And while the right-back is set to miss the rest of the campaign, his future continues to be the subject of speculation.

Everton and Arsenal have been touted with interest in Lamptey – however, Nigel Winterburn has doubted whether the England under-20s international is good enough for his former club.

Former defender Winterburn told Stadium Astro: "He’s very pacey, but is he a better wing-back than he is an out-and-out full-back?”

“I haven’t seen him play enough in the right-back position to give that judgement. I do believe that Mikel Arteta wants to play with a back four.

“In the modern game, you have to be good or better defensively than a lot of full-backs are in the Premier League at the moment.”

Staying on the subject of Arsenal, Football.London claims Mat Ryan is expected to move to the Emirates Stadium on a permanent basis in the summer.

The Australian upset Seagulls fans with his comments after joining the Gunners on loan in January.

Meanwhile, Brighton have been alerted to the potential availability of Wolves defender Dion Sanderson, as per the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old is currently impressing on loan at Sunderland and there is a suggestion he could remain at the Stadium of Light if the Black Cats are promoted to the Championship.

Wolves rate Sanderson highly but are likely to consider offers as he enters the final year of his contract.

Albion, alongside Sheffield United and Crystal Palace, have shown interest in Sanderson, while Bristol City and Huddersfield Town are also lingering.
