Brighton and Hove Albion’s Colombia international midfielder Steven Alzate looked set to join West Bromwich Albion on loan as the transfer window closed.

The club is yet to to confirm the move but Alzate – who has struggled to break into Graham Potter’s first team at Brighton – looks to be heading to Steve Bruce’s side, where he will join up with former Albion midfielder Jayson Molumby in the Championship.

Alzate, 23, is highly regarded by Potter and the club and is a popular member of the squad, especially with Albion’s young South American contingent.

Game time was however going to be limited once again this season in the top flight as he faces stiff competition from Alexis Mac Allister, Enock Mwepu, Moises Caicedo and now Billy Gilmour who is set to join from Chelsea in a £9m deal.
