The Republic of Ireland international has struggled to break into Brighton's first team this campaign and is said to be wanted by Preston North End and Millwall.

Molumby enjoyed a successful loan spell with Millwall last season and the club are reported to have made a record bid to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis.

Brighton are believed to have rejected the first offer but could well be open to another loan move to either Millwall or Preston.

Alex Neil's Preston are 12th in the Championship and are five points off the play-offs and a source at the club said Molumby would 'fit the bill.'

Molumby is keen for regular football had hoped this season would be his breakthrough year in the Premier League with Brighton.

The competitive midfielder has however been unable to force his way into Graham Potter's team.

He featured twice in the Carabao Cup against Portsmouth and Man United but his only minutes in the Premier League came as an 89th minute replacement for Pascal Gross during the 2-1 win at Aston Villa.

Competition for a starting role at Brighton is fierce and the return of Jakub Moder, who is back in January after being recalled from his loan with Lech Poznan, will limit Molumby's chances further.

"There is no plan," said Potter last week when asked what will happen to Molumby this January transfer window. "We know with all our players there is a conversation to be had when the window is open because they are human beings.

"They have views on what is right for their career so you have to respect that. But there is no set plan in place.

"We like him a lot but to break into a Premier League team is not so easy. But Jayson is a good guy, he is ambitious and he wants to play which is a good quality to have and we enjoy working with him."

"Nothing is beyond the realms," added Potter when asked if he will loaned out this January. "We need to assess and take the right decision for the player and the club and we will do that at the right time."
