The result leaves Celtic – who have two games in hand – 20 points adrift of Old Firm rivals Rangers in the title race.

And Duffy, who penned a dream loan move in the summer, has come under fire from disappointed Celtic fans.

@Kearney1085: “When we signed Shane Duffy to be a threat from set-pieces, I thought we meant in the opposition box.”

@Stephen4_2: “Today Shane Duffy gave one of the most inept and incompetent performances that I have witnessed in my 55 years watching Celtic. Absolutely abysmal.”

@sadbhoy_: “Mental that Shane Duffy is living my dream. What’s even more mental is that he is playing exactly like I do.”

Rangers supporters, however, are thrilled with the Republic of Ireland man's performances.

@iJuggernaut6: “I’ve never liked a Celtic player before but that Shane Duffy is an absolute treat.”

@JW_1872: “Shane Duffy was hyped up as the Irish Maldini when he signed for Celtic. Turns out he’s the Irish Philippe Senderos.”
