England select Brighton and Hove defender for upcoming Spain tournament

Albion defender Maya Le Tissier will represent England in a four team under-19 tournament next month.

Rehanne Skinner's Young Lionessess will compete against USA (March 4), Sweden two days later and Denmark (March 8) in the La Manga Tournament in Spain.

Le Tissier, 17, has made 13 appearances in the league and cup for Hope Powell's Albion team and quickly established herself as a regular in FA Women’s Super League team this season, having joined the club in May 2018.

“This season has gone really well and I feel that my game has definitely improved," said Le Tissier, who last year captained England under-17s in the European Championships.

“It’s nice to get recognition but I’m looking to get even better and I definitely think that the environment here can help me do that.

"I have learned so much from playing alongside a world-class player like Danique Kerkdijk this season. Everyone pushes each other to improve.”

Le Tissier, who was born and raised in Guernsey, started her youth football career at St. Martins A.C. She is not related to fellow Guernsey footballer Matt Le Tissier.
