Five takeaways from Brighton's win against Blackpool in the FA Cup

Albion beat Blackpool 2-1 at The Amex on Saturday in the FA Cup thanks to a wonderful strike from Yves Bissouma and a heavily deflected effort off of Steven Alzate's back.

Here's a look at some of the key points from the game:

Potter is taking the competition seriously

Although the Albion have found themselves in a relegation battle, Graham Potter fielded another strong team in the FA Cup. Maybe his selection is down to wanting to go a long way in the competition, or maybe it is because he knows he can't afford to lose to lesser teams as the pressure mounts on him to get results.

Either way, the strong lineups have led to two victories, albeit narrow margin ones against lower league opposition, which have been few and far between for Brighton fans in the last year or so.

A good cup run can also breed confidence and give everyone associated with the club something more positive to focus on instead of just Premier League survival.

Mac Allister magic, Bissouma's belter

Alexis Mac Allister has looked really bright of late, most surprisingly I've enjoyed watching him tackling high up the pitch to win back possession. But he has also been Brighton's most positive and creative player recently and long may that continue. It was his shot which took a huge deflection off of Steven Alzate and went in, but if you don't buy a ticket you won't win the raffle.

The same can be said for Yves Bissouma, his 30-yard effort dipped in off the underside of the bar and was hailed on Match Of The Day as goal of the weekend. The Malian continues to impress in a Brighton shirt, which is reportedly attracting interest from some of the top sides.

Next opponents

Brighton will face the winners of the Leicester v Brentford game, which kicks off today (Sunday) at 2.30pm.

Both sides will be difficult to face, as the competiton's quality begins to ramp up a notch.

Leicester are flying high in the Premier League under Brendan Rodgers, sitting pretty in third place and two points off the top spot. They will be very tough opposition; Brighton fans will remember the 3-0 hammering Albion received away at The Foxes in December.

Brentford will be no pushovers either. The Bees currently sit in fourth place in the Championship and narrowly missed out on Premier League football last year, defeated by Scott Parker's Fulham in the play-off final.

The London side was one of the first clubs to really harness and effectively use data to their advantage, and I'm sure the club will have a detailed scout report of Potter's side.

Win at The Amex

It's fair to say Brighton aren't very good at The Amex, the win against Blackpool was only their second at home this season - the other came against Portsmouth in September in the EFL Cup.

I'm sure this win will feel like a weight off both Potter and the squad's shoulders. Hopefully it should also put Albion in a positive mindset going into the massive six-pointer against Fulham on Wednesday in the league.

Financial reward

Getting through each round of the cup brings its own financial rewards. According to my sports editor, the victory against Blackpool has yielded around £10million for Brighton - the price of one Alexis Mac Allister.

I'm sure the money will be welcomed by Tony Bloom and Paul Barber during the coronavirus crisis, which has had a huge impact on clubs throughout the football pyramid.
