Lallana, 32, spent six years at Anfield prior to his summer switch to Brighton and the 32-year-old will hope his groin injury sustained at Villa settles down in time for next Saturday.

Lallana, who provided the assist for Danny Welbeck's opening goal, left the action at half-time during yesterday’s 2-1 win at Aston Villa.

“He just felt a bit of tightness in his groin," said Seagulls boss Graham Potter who has taken a cautious approach with Lallana due to his track record of injuries throughout his career.

"It was precautionary. Hopefully it will settle down and we will see in the next 24 or 48 hours.”

Tariq Lamptey will however be sure to miss the match after he was sent off at Villa for two yellow cards.

"It was on the other side of the pitch from where I was so I have not seen it back," said Potter.

"Tariq says there was not much contact, so if it was a yellow card or not, I don't know.

"It's disappointing but Tariq is an honest boy. We have a squad of players and we will have to adapt (for Liverpool).

"Tariq is an important part of what we are trying to do."
