"It's a great opportunity for Matty," Potter said. "He wants to play more and I think he'll get some opportunities there, especially with the Europa League.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for him. I'm pleased for him and I hope he does well, obviously apart from when we play them."

Potter added: "It's been frustrating from his perspective. Injury set him back and Jason [Steele] and Rob [Sanchez] took steps forward.

"He's been a victim of that [but] he's ambitious and has top level attributes.

"I'm happy to have him competing for a place. It was good for him to get some game time."

Potter was asked if the club would be looking to replace Ryan.

"No I don't see any change," he said. "We're happy with those three [Sanchez, Steele and Walton].

"They have different attributes and personalities but are a good mix."
