Propper has not featured in the Premier League for Brighton as yet this season as he has struggled to reach full fitness due to an ongoing Achilles issue.

The Dutch international played in two Carabao Cup matches for Albion earlier in the campaign and the signs were looking good for a return to the Premier League matchday squad.

To the frustration of many, the 29-year-old's recovery has taken longer than expected as a fully-fit Propper adds a touch of class and control to the Albion midfield that has been lacking at times this season.

If recovers in time for Burnley, he could be up against his old Albion midfielder partner Dale Stephen who moved to Burnley for £1m during the summer transfer window.

"He's close," said Potter. "He trained well today. He has had a tough time but he is coming through.

"We are pleased with that because he is important for us. But he is getting better and better as the days go by.

"He was an important player for us last year. He played a lot of games but as often happens for one reason or another it's difficult to sustain.

"But his quality is there. He is a good guy so we just need to help him get back to himself and how we know he can play football and then back in the side."

Solly March (ankle) will have a late fitness test ahead of Burnley and Alireza Jahanbakhsh (hamstring) continues to make good progress but Burnley could be too soon for the Iranian.

Neal Maupay, who was dropped for the Tottenham loss due to disciplinary issues, is available for selection once more.

Lewis Dunk will serve the final game of his three match suspension following his red at Crystal Palace.

Striker Danny Welbeck is also battling for a starting role having made his Albion debut as a second half sub during the 2-1 loss at Spurs.

"I think Danny can play in a few positions in that front line," Potter said. He's similar to players in that regard, we've got a few that can play in a few positions.

"He works really hard for the team when we haven't got the ball and again we've got a few players that can do that.

"His attributes are unique to him. There isn't another Danny Welbeck, there isn't another Neal Maupay, there isn't another Aaron Connolly.

"It's about understanding the individual, what they have, what they can bring, and trying to fit them in with the overall team."
