'Great fit' - John Barnes urges Liverpool to make summer swoop for Brighton star
Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma would be an ideal summer signing for Liverpool, according to former Anfield winger John Barnes.
The Malian has been a standout performer for Graham Potter’s side this term, and has featured in 29 of Albion’s 31 Premier League matches so far.
His performances in the centre of the park have seemingly caught the eye of a number of high-profile clubs too, and speculation has been rife as to whether or not he will still be at the Amex come the beginning of next season.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are currently the front-runners among bookies to prise him away from the south coast in the upcoming summer transfer window, and Barnes believes that his former club would be making a shrewd move if they were to snap up the 24-year-old.
Speaking to Bonus Codes Bet, he said: "Yves Bissouma has the ability to play at a team like Liverpool.
"He could fill what Jurgen Klopp wants from the three midfield players.
"He is strong defensively, he works hard, he plays the ball quickly and every now and then when he needs to dribble, as much as we don’t speak about Brighton, you know he can do it, because he has [in the past].
"Of all the players playing in England, that could fit the template of Liverpool’s midfield three, he is one of them.
"He looks like Georginio Wijnaldum, although he doesn’t attack as much as Gini, because Brighton plays a different style of football, when Bissouma wants to he can.
"He is 24 and young, he would be a great fit."
