Huge blow as Brighton star set for knee surgery and could be out for the season

Brighton midfielder Solly March could miss the rest of the season after he sustained a serious knee injury during the 1-0 victory at Liverpool last Wednesday.

March, 26, is expected to undergo surgery tomorrow on a torn meniscus which could rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.

It's a huge blow for club and player. March has been excellent at left wing back this season and has started 19 of Brighton's 22 Premier League matches, scoring twice.

March played well in an unfamiliar right wing back role at Liverpool on Wednesday. It was his deep cross that picked out Dan Burn who nodded back into the box for Steven Alzate to fire home the second half winner.

Just 10 minutes later however, March was practically carried off the pitch by the Albion physios and looked in serious pain.

He could barely place any weight at all on his left leg and the midfielder was quickly ruled for Burnley as head coach Graham Potter feared the worst.

“It doesn’t look so good," said head coach Graham Potter after the match. "That is the down bit of the night.

“It is so tough for the guys. They are playing every couple of days at such intensity.

“We will have to see how he settles down but obviously no chance for the weekend."

Potter could welcome back Joel Veltman and Alexis Mac Allister for the trip to Turf Moor, who both missed the shock win at Anfield.

Tariq Lamptey, Danny Welbeck, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Florin Andone are still sidelined.

Burnley may be without several first-team players when they welcome Brighton to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.

Former Seagulls strikers Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes, as well winger Robbie Brady, midfielder Josh Brownhill and full-back Charlie Taylor were all sidelined by a variety of injuries for the defeat to Manchester City in midweek.

Dyche does not think any of the quintet will be sidelined for too long, but this weekend’s visit of Brighton may come too soon.
