'Humiliated', 'Acting like a three-year-old' - Liverpool fans slam Brighton player for nightmare showing in dramatic 1-1 draw

Neal Maupay caught the eye for all the wrong reasons in Brighton’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime – and Reds supporters have been quick to criticise him on social media.

The 24-year-old stepped up when the Seagulls were awarded a penalty in the 20th minute, but skewed his effort wide of the upright.

The Frenchman was then subbed off moments later after picking up a hamstring complaint, and became the first player to start a Premier League match, miss a spot-kick, and be taken off before half-time since Dennis Bergkamp in 1998.

Diogo Jota continued his impressive form in front of goal with a second-half strike that looked to have wrapped up all three points for the champions, but Graham Potter’s men were awarded a second penalty right at the death after a clumsy Andy Robertson challenge on Danny Welbeck. Pascal Gross subsequently converted.

At the time, many Liverpool supporters were sceptical as to how genuine Maupay’s injury was, however, with some suggesting that he'd done little more than bruise his ego.

We’ve gathered a selection of reactions from Kop fans below:
