Albion moved six points clear of the drop zone with a commanding performance against a lacklustre Magpies side at the Amex to make it two wins on the bounce for Graham Potter’s men.

Leandro Trossard opened the scoring with a superb strike at the end of the first half before goals from Danny Welbeck and Neal Maupay wrapped up all three points after the interval.

Referencing on Trossard’s opener in his Premier League Team of the Week, Shearer said: "An outstanding display by the Belgian, marked by some incisive passes and a wonderful opening goal that set the tone for victory."

The former Newcastle hero also reserved high praise for defensive duo Lewis Dunk and Joel Veltman.

Speaking about Dunk, he said: "Brighton's captain led by example as the home side kept Newcastle quiet and earned a big victory in their fight for safety."

Referencing Veltman, he added: "An assist and a clean sheet ensured the Seagulls got three crucial points that could well have lifted them out of the relegation fight."

The Match of the Day pundit also named Graham Potter as his manager of the week, praising the Brighton boss for his bold tactical outlook and his willingness to stick to his principles.

He said: "Brighton were brave and assured in their approach: a fitting reflection of their manager."

The Seagulls’ next game is against Manchester United on April 4th.
